About Kings River Conservancy


The Kings River Conservancy is a federally registered 501 (c) 3 non-profit corporation founded on the principle that advocating for and protecting the Lower Kings River benefits the community at large. And, it's fun!



The mission of the Kings River Conservancy is to foster community involvement in protecting and enhancing environmental values, to enhance and control public access for recreation, to educate the public on matters related to environmental values, to preserve agricultural lands and to encourage sound public conservation practices along the Kings River corridor from Pine Flat Dam to Highway 99.



Margaret Thorburn, Founding President

1923 - 2012

Margaret Thorburn received her BS degree with honors from the University of California, Berkeley, and earned her Master's in Nursing Education from Fresno State College where she was Professor Emerita of Nursing. Through the years Margaret was an active member of numerous community organizations including the Fresno Philharmonic Association. She was secretary of the San Joaquin River Parkway and Conservation Trust and past president of the Kings River Conservancy.
